Nana and Nanu-Mom and Dad,
Save the Date-07-08-09-Congratulations, you are going to be grandparents! After a year and a half of trying, Erin is finally pregnant. Here is how the story goes...The past few weeks she has felt a little off-extremely tired and a little "flittery." She shrugged it off to long hours at the office and anxiety about the trip to China. We really felt that it was important to know exactly what was happening before she left for China. She took 4 pregnancy tests, all which read negative. We had a discussion about the fact that we simply could be testing too early. I did not think that this would be the month that our lives would change forever. I was wrong! Erin decided to take one last test before leaving for China. Yesterday at 6:05 a.m. the test read "Pregnant!" She snuck into the room where I was fast asleep and whispered, "I think you better follow me, I have something to show you." No surprise to anybody who knows her, she was a puddle of tears. I followed her to see the results for myself-although even before she showed me, I knew what she was going to say. Her tears were not of sadness, but of joy. That started off one of the best days of my life.
To be sure that we saw what we thought we saw, we took one more test and got the same result. Erin immediatly contacted her doctor-who knew of the issues in getting pregnant-to see if she could get in for a blood test. Her doctor was booked solid but called her back upon seeing a message that she had called in. "I hear we have some good news this morning-hurry in-I will squeeze you in between appointments." Erin drove to Glenview and got in to see the doctor. Normally at this point, that is all that can be done. However, since Erin is going to be traveling, her primary care doctor made an urgent appointment with an OBGYN.
In the meantime, Nanu called Erin to wish her well on her trip. His first question was "Are you excited?" To which Erin replied "About the trip?" Later in the conversation he said "Are you ready? This is a big trip." To which Erin replied "Yes it is." China was nowhere on her mind-had she not spoken with me right before she would have sworn that I had already told him. It was almost as if both of you had a sense that something was going on. While at dinner celebrating, Nana called. YOU didn't have a dream did you??? :)
The entire day was centered around the baby. There were so many people to see and so many questions that needed to be answered before she left for China. At 3:00 she met with her OBGYN who after performing two more tests said "Congratulations-you have an amazing ride ahead of you." They estimate Baby Callahan to be roughly 4 weeks along. Just far enough along to make Mom really tired, pretty emotional, and to already have strange cravings (ketchup and mayo?).
We really wanted to wait to tell you in person but this was too big of a secret to keep! SHH...our parents are the first to know-we want to make sure that Baby Callahan has grown a bit before we share with the rest of the family.
We can't wait to see you at Thanksgiving!
Love,
Rob and Erin
